Planned Bushfire Mitigation Works - Railway Dam Reserve, Boyup Brook

The Shire of Boyup Brook is committed to enhancing the safety of our community and protecting our valuable natural assets. As part of our ongoing bushfire mitigation strategy, we will be undertaking planned works at the Railway Dam Reserve (Town Reserve) in the coming months.

These works will include:

  • Mechanical Works:
    • Tidying up existing firebreaks to ensure clear access for fire units in case of an emergency.
    • Cleaning drainage channels to improve water flow and prevent erosion of pathways. These works are scheduled to commence within the next week or two.
  • Weed Treatment:
    • Targeted weed control using hand spraying and cut-and-paste methods to eliminate non-native plant species. This work is tentatively planned to begin in August.
  • Prescribed Burn:
    • A light mosaic burn will be conducted in a designated area of the reserve, as shown on the attached map. This burn will reduce fuel loads while minimising disruption to the existing flora and fauna.
    • Due to the specific conditions required for a safe and effective burn, the exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time. The burn will be conducted under the guidance of experienced Fire Control Officers and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

These essential works will help to reduce the risk of bushfires in the area and improve the overall health of the Railway Dam Reserve.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we undertake these important activities. We will provide further updates regarding the prescribed burn dates as soon as they are confirmed.
