Emergency Services Officer – Part Time (4 days/week) $35-43/hour

The Shire is seeking an enthusiastic Emergency Services Officer to promote, develop and manage our community Emergency Services.  This role involves working closely with key stakeholders to provide administration and support to Bushfire Brigades and identify and manage bushfire treatment programs.

In the role of the Emergency Services Officer, you will be responsible to:

  • Ensure the Shire is meeting its responsibilities under the relevant legislation and policies relating to community emergency services and fire mitigation; planning, preparedness, prevention, response and recovery
  • Promote and develop emergency services awareness with local government, staff, community and key stakeholders
  • Plan, develop, implement, manage and review community emergency services within the Shire of Boyup Brook.
  • Identify, prioritise, implement and manage local government bushfire treatment programs and carry out Special Projects as identified through the Bushfire Brigades, local SES, the Local Emergency Management Committee and Council
  • Provide support to the administration of the Shire’s volunteer Bushfire Brigades, including management of capital and operating grants
  • Support the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) in the role of Executive Officer

 What’s required:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of emergency management and bushfire risk management, including understanding of the role of landholders and agencies in the management of bushfire risk.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise, consult and negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including contractors, government officers, industry and private landowners.
  • Ability to interpret, enforce and administer relevant Acts, regulations and Local Laws together with the application, investigation and prosecution of such.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work in both a team environment and autonomously as required.
  • Good level of computer proficiency including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, email and internet applications
  • Sound knowledge of core procedures in relation to Emergency Service activities
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety relevant to work activities.
  • Current C Class drivers’ licence.
  • Current White Card – Construction WA
  • Previous experience desirable

This part time position is offered at Level 5 classification (Local Government Industry Award 2020 (State)) above award rate of $35-43 per hour, depending on experience.
